Frequently Asked Questions About Dentures
Will dentures make me look different?
Prosthodontic technology is advanced enough that people might not even notice the difference! Dentures are customized for your whole mouth. We make molds in wax for you to try them on and see how they look before we make you a permanent set of custom dentures or partials.
Will dentures affect the way I eat and speak?
When you get dentures, you need to be patient about getting accustomed to speaking and eating with them. While speaking, at first you may lisp a little, but most people adjust pretty quickly. Eating feels funny at first, but we work with each patient to help you learn new habits quickly.
If your upper or lower denture displays a hairline crack, we repair it quickly. It usually takes only one hour, unless we're very busy. We also offer more serious repairs, like when your dentures are completely broken, but it takes longer according to how complex the job is.
What is denture relining?
Denture relining starts with shaving away the underside of dentures, then builds them up again, using a dental polymer, to assure they fit properly against the gums. People's mouths change and we want to make sure you have the most comfortable fit possible.
Do I need my dentures relined?
Dentures usually last about 10 years. If your dentures are no longer comfortable, come in for a free consultation and we'll be happy to discuss options for adjustments and relines. You may have experienced bone loss in your jaw, causing discomfort and requiring relining.
